Twitter has been the go-to platform for influencers, celebrities, and politicians for years. However, with recent changes in social media trends, a new application called Threads is all set to take over.
Essentially, Threads is an Instagram app that allows users to share texts – just like Elon’s Twitter. The app already has over 50 million downloads since its launch in July 2023.
Many celebrities have started using the Threads app and are gradually shifting their focus from Twitter to Threads. In this blog post, we will explore the reasons behind this phenomenon.
Celebrities Bidding Adieu to Twitter to Join Threads
Ellen DeGeneres was one of the first celebrities who joined Twitter in 2008. However, her last tweet was in late April, and she has not tweeted since then. It is been over two months since her last tweet, and she has not come back to Twitter.
Interestingly, Ellen was one of the first 3,000 individuals to download the Threads app when it became available. On July 5th, she posted a message on Threads saying, “Welcome to Gay Twitter!” Her message received nearly 7,000 responses in a blink of an eye.
Selena Gomez and Oprah Winfrey are two other celebrities who had not posted anything on Twitter since May and January, respectively. However, both celebrities started becoming active on Threads.
The Singer used the app to say “hi” to her fans, while Oprah claimed that she came on the app to promote a musical adaptation of “The Colour Purple,” which she produced.
What is Threads Any Way?
Threads is an application that works in sync with Instagram. Unlike Twitter, it allows users to create a private network of their close friends. This feature is what makes Threads different from other social media platforms. Users can layer their stories with multiple updates throughout the day, making it easier for frequent posting.
Another unique feature of Threads is the camera-first design. It makes taking pictures and videos seamless and easy. One can take a picture using a device and instantaneously share it with selected friends on Threads. This feature works similarly to Snapchat.
Parting Thoughts
It seems like Twitter has some serious competition from Threads, and the latter might be the future of social media. The celebrities who have shifted their focus from Twitter to Threads seemingly prefer it due to its private nature, intimate design, and better user interface.
However, Threads might be the perfect social media platform for individuals who want to connect with their close friends while keeping their privacy intact. If Threads continues its popularity, it is plausible that Twitter’s spot as the go-to platform for influencers might be overtaken.
Only time will tell if Threads will last or just turn into a passing trend. But there is no doubt that many celebrities are signing up for it and successfully using the app to interact with fans.
