Dream of Meeting Queen Elizabeth? These are the Rules You Need to Remember in Case You Do
In her 67 years on the British throne, Queen Elizabeth has met her fair share of people from world leaders to the common folk. Despite the changing times and the kind of people she interacts with, the strict rules that you must follow when faced with Her Majesty remain the same.
If you dream of meeting the Queen one day, these are the important rules you must remember and follow.
In the Presence
As soon as Queen Elizabeth enters a room, guests waiting to interact with the royal should be already be standing and ready to greet her. British citizens are expected to either bow or curtsy while American citizens can simply shake her hand.
Whatever you do though, remember never to turn your back from her afterward as it’s considered to be disrespectful. You should also take cues for when you can sit down from the Queen.
Prepare a Gift
Bringing a gift when you come to meet the Queen is another customary practice you might want to follow. The good news is that the present need not be something grand. For example, locals often give Her Majesty a gift that represents their hometown
Those who have the chance to speak with or be in close proximity with Her Majesty are reminded to refrain from striking a conversation her unless she begins it. The Monarch should be the one to carry all conversations as per royal etiquette.
You can answer her questions and respond to her remarks. The Queen must be the one to end the conversation.
It’s also customary to address her as ‘Your Majesty’ in the beginning and call her ‘Ma’am’ until it’s time for goodbyes.
Dress for the Occasion
Of course, you are expected to be dressed appropriately for the occasion when in the presence of the Queen. The exact type of clothing you can wear will vary but refrain from wearing revealing clothing or flip-flops.
Be mindful of the dress code for the event you’re attending and dress to impress. After all, it’s not every day that you get the chance to meet one of the world’s most powerful people.
Similar to speaking with the Queen, dining with her also come with many rules. One thing to remember is that you should always take cues from her.
For example, it’s customary to wait for the Queen to take the first bite before you begin eating. Likewise, dinner guests are expected to stop eating as well when the Monarch has finished her meal.
